How far in advance should I book?

For gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, book 3-6 months ahead because permits are limited daily. Classic safaris and Nile cruises are comfortable at 2-3 months. Short city stays, day trips and beach add-ons can often be arranged within a week.

Can you build a private, custom itinerary?

Yes. Every tour can be reshaped around your dates, pace, budget and interests, and we regularly combine two or three countries in one trip - for example Uganda gorillas with a Kenyan safari, or Egypt's Nile with the Red Sea.

What is the best time of year to travel?

East Africa is a year-round destination. June-September and December-February are drier, best for wildlife viewing and trekking. Kenya and Tanzania's wildebeest migration peaks July-October. Egypt is most comfortable October-April, when daytime heat is mild.

Do I need a visa for Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda or Tanzania?

Most nationalities do. Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda issue e-visas online before travel, and Tanzania offers both e-visa and arrival options. If you are visiting several of these countries, the East Africa Tourist Visa covers Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda on one permit. We send the exact links and requirements once your trip is confirmed.

What about a visa for Egypt?

Many nationalities can obtain an Egyptian e-visa online or a visa on arrival at major airports. Some passports qualify for a simplified permit when visiting only the Sharm El Sheikh region. Requirements change, so we confirm your specific case in writing before you fly.

Are vaccinations required?

A yellow fever certificate is required for Uganda and Rwanda and may be requested elsewhere in the region. Routine vaccinations plus malaria prophylaxis are widely recommended for East Africa. Please confirm with a travel clinic 4-6 weeks before departure.

Typically an expert local guide, 4x4 or private vehicle transport, park and activity permits, accommodation on the route, and listed meals. International flights, personal insurance, tips and optional extras are usually excluded - each tour page lists exactly what is in and out.

What should I pack for a safari or trek?

Neutral-coloured layers, a warm mid-layer for early mornings, sturdy walking boots for trekking, a rain shell, sun hat, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars and a spare camera battery. Soft duffel bags travel better than hard cases on small aircraft.

How do payments, money and tipping work?

Trips are quoted in US dollars. Cards work in cities and larger lodges, but carry some cash for markets, tips and rural areas. Tipping is customary and appreciated; we suggest amounts for guides, drivers and lodge staff in your final trip pack.
